I’ve sold everything from vintage tees to designer belts on Grailed. Grailed fees consistently land between 12% and 14%. Here’s how fees work and what impacts your final payout.

What fees does Grailed charge? The 30-second answer

On every domestic sale, Grailed charges sellers a 9% marketplace commission plus standard payment processing fees that vary by seller status.

Payment processing fees depend on your Stripe onboarding status, seller location, and buyer location.

  • Stripe-onboarded sellers (in eligible countries) pay 3.49% + $0.49 domestically or 4.99% + $0.49 internationally.
  • Non-onboarded sellers in Stripe-eligible countries pay higher rates: 3.49% + $0.99 domestically or 5.49% + $0.99 internationally.
  • Sellers in non-Stripe-eligible countries pay a default rate of 4.99% + $0.49 for all transactions, regardless of buyer location.

Grailed doesn’t charge listing fees, so you can post unlimited items at no upfront cost.

How are Grailed fees calculated?

Grailed calculates fees based on your transaction amount, not just the item’s list price. Here’s a breakdown of how Grailed calculates selling fees:

  • Item sale price: The 9% commission applies to the item portion of your total sale. On a $75 sale with no shipping charge, Grailed takes $6.75. If you also charge shipping, the 9% is calculated on the item plus shipping. This base fee stays consistent across all categories, from budget basics to high-end designer pieces.
  • Shipping cost: Grailed includes shipping charges in the total amount, subject to fees. When you add $10 shipping to that $75 tee, the buyer pays $85, but Grailed’s 9% commission applies to the full $85 ($7.65 in fees). Offering free shipping and building costs into your price can sometimes reduce the overall fee impact on higher-value items.
  • Sales tax: Grailed collects and remits sales tax where required, but this amount doesn’t factor into your fee calculation. The platform handles tax compliance automatically based on buyer location. You receive your sale price minus marketplace and payment processing fees, while Grailed manages all tax reporting and remittance.
  • Payment processing: Payment processing fees for Stripe-onboarded sellers add 3.49% + $0.49 for domestic sales or 4.99% + $0.49 internationally to your total costs. Non-onboarded sellers in eligible countries pay $0.50 more per transaction ($0.99 instead of the $0.49 fixed fee).

These fees apply to the entire transaction amount, including shipping. On that $85 sale ($75 item + $10 shipping), you pay an additional $3.46 in domestic processing fees.

Understanding Stripe Onboarding

Grailed uses Stripe to process payments. Completing Stripe onboarding qualifies you for lower processing fees. The onboarding process involves identity verification and connecting a bank account.

The difference is significant. Onboarded sellers save $0.50 per transaction on the fixed fee and pay lower percentage rates on international sales. If you're eligible, onboarding with Stripe can save hundreds of dollars annually for active sellers.

Total Grailed fees (real percentage sellers pay)

Grailed’s 9% commission is only part of your actual cost. Once you add payment processing, most domestic, Stripe-onboarded sellers pay approximately 12.5–13.5% per sale.

Non-onboarded or international transactions can approach 14–16%, depending on location and setup. Here’s a look at some typical Grailed fee examples:

Note: The following examples assume you are a Stripe-onboarded seller in an eligible country. Fees may be higher if you haven't completed Stripe onboarding.

Example 1: Domestically sold hoodie for $100 with buyer-paid shipping

With $12 buyer-paid shipping (which Grailed automatically adds to the listing price at checkout), the total cost comes to $112. Grailed charges 9% on the full $112, which equals $10.08 in marketplace fees. Add $4.40 in payment processing (3.49% + $0.49), and total fees hit $14.48.

For all you non-Mathletes, the net revenue from this sale is $97.52.

Example 2: Domestically sold hoodie for $100 with free shipping

If you list the same $100 hoodie but absorb shipping costs, Grailed still takes 9%. But since the shipping cost is already baked into the listing price, the platform only takes $9. You’ll also pay a processing fee of $3.98 (3.49% of $100 plus $0.49).

Overall, Grailed charges $12.98 on this example.

You net $87.02, but pay shipping out of pocket. To make this option worthwhile, you’ll need to secure low shipping costs and list items with low COGS (cost of goods sold).

Example 3: Internationally sold hoodie for $100

Let’s say a Grailed buyer in Madrid buys your hoodie, with $15 buyer-paid shipping. You’ll still pay Grailed 9% in marketplace fees ($10.35 on $115), but international payment processing for Stripe-onboarded sellers jumps to 4.99% + $0.49, adding another $6.23.

So, total deductions are $16.58, leaving you with $98.42.

Grailed shipping fees

Grailed doesn’t charge shipping fees directly, but shipping costs impact your total transaction fees and payout timing. You can use Grailed Labels, a prepaid shipping label service, for eligible listings shipping within the U.S. and Puerto Rico, plus Canada‑to‑U.S. listings. Items must be under $750 and 20 pounds.

When you use Grailed Labels, buyers typically pay the shipping cost at checkout as a separate line item, so you don’t have to purchase labels out of pocket. The system automatically generates labels, adds tracking, and handles the technical setup of postage and coverage, so you don’t need to weigh, measure, or manually enter addresses.

Once you’ve shipped, tracking updates are visible to both you and the buyer, and Grailed support can assist with shipping issues, though you may still need to work with carriers and buyers if a package is lost or damaged.

Does Grailed charge listing or hidden fees?

No, Grailed doesn’t charge listing fees, but beware of the following hidden costs that can catch you off guard:

  • Return disputes can cost you twice: If a buyer opens a dispute and a refund is issued, Grailed may not refund all fees in every scenario, especially for disputes or chargebacks handled via payment processors, and processing fees are typically nonrefundable.
  • Chargeback fees hit hard: When a buyer files a chargeback through their card provider, the payment processor may impose a dispute or chargeback fee on the seller. Grailed may pass that fee on to you (the seller), but Grailed does not publicly disclose the exact amount.
  • Uninsured shipments put profit at risk: Grailed doesn’t require shipping insurance, but lost or damaged packages without coverage mean you lose both the item and all fees paid. A $300 designer piece lost in transit costs you $300 plus the $38 to $42 in fees already deducted.
  • International customs rejections: If an international buyer refuses delivery due to customs or taxes, the package may be returned or abandoned. You could be responsible for return shipping, depending on the carrier and customs rules. Whether Grailed’s fees are refunded in such situations depends on the resolution of the transaction.

Is selling on Grailed worth it after fees?

Yes, selling on Grailed is worth it after fees. The marketplace delivers value when your inventory matches its style-conscious buyer base.

Grailed stands out for folks selling designer pieces, vintage streetwear, and authenticated luxury items. If you can sell these in-demand items at the right price, you can typically recover the 12–14% in fees through higher sale prices and faster turnover than other marketplaces.
