Depop only takes a 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing fee for U.S. sellers. However, costs may vary based on your shipping method. Learn about how much Depop takes from each sale to determine your profit.

How much does Depop take? The 30-second answer

Depop charges U.S. and U.K. sellers a 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing fee on each sale. If you’re a U.S. (or U.K.) seller, the platform doesn't charge any selling commissions.

Sellers outside the U.S. or U.K. pay a 10% fee on all sales, plus a payment processing fee via PayPal, which varies per region.

Depop selling fee

Depop eliminated its 10% selling fee for U.S. and U.K. sellers as of July 15th, 2024. Sellers in these regions who list items pay no selling fees.

However, sellers outside the U.S. and U.K. still pay a flat 10% fee on the item sale price (excluding taxes). This fee also applies to shipping costs if you arrange delivery yourself rather than using a Depop shipping label.

Payment processing fees

Payment processing fees cover the cost of securely transferring funds from buyers to your bank account via Depop’s payment provider. U.S. sellers pay 3.3% + $0.45 per transaction, while U.K. sellers pay 2.9% + £0.30.

These fees apply to the complete transaction amount: item price, shipping costs, and any applicable taxes. For instance, if you sell a $50 Lululemon workout shirt with $6 shipping and $4.20 in taxes, you’ll pay roughly $2.44 in processing fees (3.3% of $60.20 plus $0.45).

Depop automatically deducts this fee before depositing funds into your connected bank account.

PayPal processing for non-US/UK sellers

Sellers outside the U.S. and U.K. who use PayPal face different fee structures that vary by location and account type. PayPal processes these transactions and charges its own rates, which can differ significantly based on your country and account setup.

For example, a business account in Australia pays 2.6% + $0.30 (AUD) on purchases under $1,500 (AUD), while personal accounts or sellers in other regions see different percentages. PayPal deducts fees from your PayPal balance after the sale is complete, unlike Depop Payments, which handles everything before payout.

Check your specific PayPal account settings to identify your exact rate, as these fees directly impact your final earnings per transaction.

Boosted listings fees

Boosted listings give your items priority placement in search results and feeds, increasing visibility to potential buyers. Depop offers all sellers this optional advertising feature. It charges a fee only if a buyer who viewed or clicked your boosted listing purchases the item within 28 days.

U.S. and Australian sellers pay an additional 8%, while U.K. sellers pay 12% on the item sale price (excluding taxes) plus any self-arranged shipping costs. If you use Depop’s shipping labels, the label cost is excluded from the boosting fee calculation, reducing your overall advertising cost per sale.

How shipping changes the math

Depop shipping method choices directly impact your total fees and profit margins per sale. Depop's prepaid shipping labels get excluded from boosting and selling fee calculations (where applicable). However, self-arranged shipping gets added to the fee base.

Let's take a look at two examples:

Example 1: Self shipping

A $30 vintage sweatshirt with $8 self‑arranged shipping means U.S. sellers pay payment-processing fees on the full $38, because processing is calculated on item price plus shipping and any taxes. If the seller chooses to boost the item and the sale results from the boost, the boosting fee is typically calculated based on the total item price of $38.

The payment-processing fee on the sale is $1.70, and the boost fee comes to $3.04, bringing the total cost to $4.74.

Example 2: Using Depop’s shipping labels

If you use a Depop shipping label, the cost of the label is excluded from boosting fees, lowering your advertising expense for promoted items.

Let’s say you sell that same vintage sweatshirt for $30. When using a Depop shipping label (which the buyer pays for), the boosting fee applies only to the $30 item price, adding on only $2.40.

Combine that $2.40 with Depop’s payment processing fee (3.3% × 30 + $0.45 = $1.44), and your total cost is $3.84.

Depop shipping can pay off: Across 20 boosted sales at this price monthly, you’ll get $20.40 back in your pocket without changing your item prices or sales volume.

Refunds, disputes, and fee reversals

When you refund a sale paid through Depop Payments, Depop will often refund its payment processing fee. If the sale included a boost, the related boost fee may also be refunded.

If you sell through PayPal outside the U.S. and U.K., Depop can, in many cases, reverse the 10% selling fee on refunded orders. You’ll need to contact Depop Support with proof of the refund and your username.

PayPal’s own processing-fee refund policy varies by country and account, so it’s essential to check your specific terms to see whether those charges are refunded. These mechanisms help reduce platform-fee losses on legitimate returns or dispute-related refunds. However, you may still incur non-refundable costs, such as shipping or specific payment-processing fees.

Final verdict: Is selling on Depop worth it?

Yes, selling on Depop is worth it because of its low fees and refund-friendly policies. On a typical mid‑priced sale, Depop’s 3.3% + $0.45 Depop Payments fee generally amounts to 4% to 6% of the item price.

Depop mainly appeals to younger Millennials and Gen Z folks looking for trendy or vintage fashion. If you’re considering selling on the platform, read our Depop selling tips and get started on the right foot.
