During the State of the Posh Union, Poshmark CEO Manish Chandra started by saying they were “rolling [the algorithm] back starting this weekend”. Understandably, this led to a lot of chatter in the livestream. “What algorithm?” “What does this mean?” Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

About 6 months ago, Poshmark changed the default sort order from “Just shared” to “Relevance”. This means when you searched for a brand or style, you saw what ranked highly according to Poshmark’s algorithm. This was frustrating for two reasons: first, the algorithm wasn’t perfect, and would sometimes show results that were incorrect. Second, because it wasn’t clear how to get your listings recognized by the algorithm, some sellers’ listings were effectively hidden altogether, bringing sales to a standstill.

Prior to this change, sellers could rely on sharing their listings (or, more commonly, using a Poshmark bot to share their listings) to increase engagement. Suddenly, sellers had to go back to the drawing board, and experiment with their titles, descriptions, images, etc., hoping to crack the code. For many people, reselling is a full-time occupation, so adding this uncertainty on top of sourcing and listing new inventory was extremely harmful to their business.

Fortunately, that seems to all be in the past. Poshmark seems to understand that for many loyal sellers, this change was unfavorable in many ways. Poshmark is one of the most popular selling platforms, but it’s by no means the only one, and Poshmark doesn’t want to risk losing anyone else to eBay, Mercari, Depop, etc.

Nifty is a modern Poshmark bot, and we’re ready to enter this new era with you. Sign up today to start automatically sharing your Poshmark listings 8,000 times a day, no supervision required.
