Depop has suspended my account twice: once for a buyer's false claim and once for violating a recent policy change. Here's the step-by-step process I used to be reinstated both times: check your suspension email, gather evidence, and appeal through the Help Center.

You can avoid account suspension by following Depop's policies, listing only permitted items, and keeping all transactions on the platform.

What does a Depop account suspension mean? In 30 seconds

A Depop account suspension temporarily restricts or fully deactivates your account, limiting access to features such as buying, selling, and messaging.

Temporary suspensions typically last a few days to a few weeks. More serious or repeated violations may result in permanent deactivation, which you can only challenge through Depop's appeals process.

The platform typically sends an email explaining why the account was suspended and how to appeal, but some users report that Depop suspended their account without warning.

Why Depop suspends accounts

Understanding these 3 reasons Depop suspends accounts helps you avoid common mistakes:

Mistake 1: Policy violations

Depop can suspend or permanently deactivate accounts that list counterfeit goods or sell prohibited items (such as weapons or adult content). It also suspends folks who try to move transactions off‑platform to avoid fees.

Payment disputes, chargebacks, and attempts to manipulate pricing can lead to reviews, payout holds, or account suspension. Repeated or serious offenses may result in temporary or permanent account deactivation.

Mistake 2: Community and behavior issues

Depop monitors listings and messages for policy violations. Harassment, abusive language, or threats toward buyers can lead to rapid investigation and may result in account suspension or removal.

Sellers who repeatedly receive negative feedback for late shipping, damaged items, or refusing legitimate returns risk account review and possible restrictions or suspension. Creating multiple accounts to evade bans, manipulate reviews, or artificially boost visibility violates Community Guidelines, which can lead to suspension or permanent removal.

Mistake 3: Triggering automated system flags and verifications

Accidentally triggering Depop's automated systems is an easy mistake to make, and many sellers don't realize until it's too late. These systems flag accounts showing unusual activity patterns.

These patterns include rapid listing creation, bot-like behavior, or suspicious login locations. Unresolved buyer complaints, chargebacks, or payment holds may trigger account reviews, temporary restrictions, or freezes on certain transactions.

Failed email or phone verification, especially after suspicious activity, can restrict or block access to the account. You’ll need to complete the security checks through Depop’s official support or verification process.

How to tell if your Depop account is suspended

Here are some possible signs that Depop has suspended your account, so you can respond quickly:

  • Login error messages: When logging in, you might see error messages such as “Account suspended” or “Unable to log in.” Sometimes the message briefly explains the issue or directs you to contact support.
  • Email notifications from Depop: Depop often sends suspension notices to the registered email address, explaining that your account has been restricted. In many cases, the email may mention the type of violation and, in some situations, provide information about duration or appeals, but the amount of detail and timing can vary.
  • Help Center messages: In some cases, you may see a banner or notice in the app or Help Center. These messages can indicate which policies you violated and may suggest steps or links for further help, though not every account issue appears this way.
  • Absence of listings and messages: Listings may stop appearing in search results, and your profile may become unviewable to other users. Buyers may be unable to start new conversations with you, and your message history may be limited.

What to do: First actions after suspension

First, take a deep breath and realize that your immediate response determines whether you'll recover your account. Take these specific actions within the first 24 hours to protect your selling privileges:

Step 1: Check your inbox and spam folder

Search for messages from Depop's official email addresses, including noreply@depop.com and support@depop.com. Suspension notices sometimes land in spam folders. The email explains why Depop suspended your account and whether you can appeal.

Step 2: Note the suspension reason

Note the exact violation Depop cited in the notification, whether it's counterfeit listings, harassment claims, or payment disputes. By understanding the specific policy you allegedly violated, you can write a targeted appeal. If Depop didn’t provide a reason, note that detail. Vague suspensions sometimes indicate automated system errors.

Step 3: Document your recent activity

Screenshot your recent orders, messages with buyers, and any disputes or returns from the past 30 days. This evidence becomes critical if you need to prove you followed platform rules or if a buyer made false claims. Save transaction records, shipping confirmations, and communications proving you acted in good faith.

Step 4: Don’t create a new account

Resist the urge to open a second Depop account while suspended. This action violates platform policy and will result in a permanent ban. Depop tracks device IDs, IP addresses, and payment methods to detect duplicate accounts. Wait for your appeal outcome before considering alternative platforms or creating new accounts.

How to appeal a Depop suspension

Most Depop suspensions offer an appeal window, but the timeframe and eligibility vary by case. Here’s how to submit a clear, evidence-backed appeal to improve your chances of account restoration:

1. Preparing your appeal

Collect all the documentation you gathered. Then, write an honest explanation that acknowledges the issue without excuses or blame. Clear documentation and a respectful tone help your case stand out from sellers who argue defensively or provide incomplete information.

2. Contact Depop

In the app, go to your profile, then open the Support/Help Center section, and use the contact or web form option to submit a request. You can also reply to the suspension email you received or contact Depop via the Help Center form. Depop officially directs users to its Help Center and verified @depop.com addresses.

Depop often replies within several business days, but responses can take up to a week, especially during busy periods or in complex cases. Keep an eye on your spam folder as emails may end up here.

3. What to include in your appeal

State exactly why you believe the suspension was incorrect, referencing specific Depop policies you followed and providing timestamps or order numbers. Attach screenshots showing your compliance with rules, such as authentic item receipts, shipping tracking, or polite buyer communications.

Explain what steps you'll take to prevent future issues, like improved product descriptions, faster shipping, or better authentication practices. Depop wants to see accountability and commitment to following guidelines, not excuses or claims that you didn't know the rules existed.

Example appeal templates

Here are 2 templates that you can copy and paste to email or help center messages to save time when communicating with Depop:

1. Template for misunderstood listing

“Hi Depop Support, I'm appealing the suspension of my account [username]. My listing for [item name, order #] was flagged as counterfeit, but it's authentic. I purchased it from [retailer name] on [date], and I've attached the original receipt showing proof of purchase.

I understand Depop's strict policies on counterfeits and will include authentication details in future luxury listings to avoid confusion.

Please review my evidence and restore my account. Thank you for your time.”

2. Template for payment dispute

“Hi Depop Support, My account [username] was suspended due to a payment issue on order [#]. The buyer claimed they didn't receive the item, but I shipped it on [date] with tracking number [#], which shows delivery on [date].

I've attached shipping confirmation and the buyer's original messages confirming receipt. I'm happy to provide additional proof or work with your team to resolve this. I've been selling on Depop for [timeframe] with positive feedback and want to continue following platform guidelines.

Please reconsider my suspension. Thank you for your time.”

How long suspensions last and what to expect

Suspension timelines vary by violation type and your account history. Temporary suspensions often last from a few days up to a few weeks, and the exact duration depends on the violation and Depop’s decision.

More serious violations, such as selling prohibited or counterfeit items, fraud, or repeated breaches, may result in permanent deactivation of your account.

Here’s what some sellers have said about being suspended on Depop:

  • Suspended for no reason: A long-time user argued that while Depop is easy to use and enables multiple sales, they were wrongfully suspended, which Depop later admitted was an error. Although Depop reinstated their account, they lost sales and suffered poor visibility. (November 15th, 2025)
  • Payouts withheld: Another Depop seller noted that the platform notified them of a suspension and noted that payments could be frozen for up to 30 days. (June 2nd, 2025)
  • Suspended for a reason: One user claimed Depop suspended their account after violating their policy by using a third-party messaging app. They said payments remain blocked, support is unclear, and they feared further unauthorized withdrawals despite the suspension status changing. (March 21st, 2025)

Hedging your risk against Depop suspensions

Many sellers rely heavily on Depop for income, but sudden suspensions can disrupt sales and cash flow. Taking proactive steps helps reduce risk, protect payouts, and keep your business running even if issues arise.

  1. Familiarize yourself with policies: Read Depop's Seller Policies carefully and revisit them often, since rules change without clear notice. Pay close attention to prohibited items, messaging restrictions, and refund rules so you avoid accidental violations that trigger automated suspensions.
  2. List allowed items only: Only list items clearly permitted under Depop's guidelines, even if similar products appear widely on the platform. Avoid items that could fall under drug‑related or regulated product rules (for example, some CBD or hemp‑related goods), because these may be removed and can put your account at risk.
  3. Maintain payment integrity: Keep all transactions inside Depop's payment system and never move conversations or payments off-platform. Moving payments and messaging off Depop (for example, paying via external apps instead of checkout) is against the rules and can result in account restriction.
  4. Provide excellent customer service: Respond quickly, communicate clearly, and resolve buyer issues before they escalate into disputes. Consistent professionalism reduces the chance of reports or refund claims. Ship on time, package items securely, and address questions within 24 hours to build trust and prevent negative feedback.
  5. Crosslist on other marketplaces: Sell on multiple platforms instead of relying solely on Depop for income. Use a tool like Nifty to manage listings across platforms such as Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, and Etsy. You can reach different buyer demographics by spreading your listings and increasing visibility.

FAQs
